Bearing Witness Trip to India
In the Zen Peacemaker tradition of Master Bernie Glassman, this will be Ven. Pannavati’s fifth “bearing witness” compassionate-wisdom retreat. Rather than thinking of an “I” who is doing something for someone, we simply go to India as tourists, following three rules:
- Not knowing;
- Bearing witness to what is there; and
- Responding skillfully to what we encounter.
- Arrive in Southern India individually on Tuesday, December 8, 2015
- Travel and work with villages in the State of Tamil Nadu, especially in the Tiruvannamalai District
- Tour ends Tuesday, December 22, 2015
Please make your flight plans accordingly. Each traveler is responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation to and from India. The destination airport is Chennai International Airport (abbreviation MAA). A round trip flight to India from the USA, according to CheapTickets.com, is currently approximately $1,000 US.
The total retreat cost of $1,800 US includes 3 meals/day, transportation in India, lodging in a quality Western style hotel*, daily activities and sightseeing excursions. Flexible daily activities include morning meditation, visiting the “untouchable” villages, with time to relax in the late afternoon, evening meditation and fellowship, and free time to enjoy spa services and local culture. We will visit ashrams, sacred sites and see the hidden Buddhist treasures of southern India. An in-depth yogic training the Buddha practiced until his enlightenment — light and form meditation — will be offered, here, at the foot of the majestic Arunachala sacred mountain.
